In every mentoring and community
development program that we seek, we believe that the subject of social change
is the community itself. The community (soecity), with all its distinctive
local characteristics and knowledge, is the party who best understands what and
how to overcome the challenges that exist. Thus, from the beginning we tried to
position the community as an active subject and involved in every program. We
are only present as a facilitator and build awareness together towards
improvement and social change.
In practice, we formed community
groups in each village; work together to improve education, the economy, and
the environment. One of the approaches we take to strengthen community groups
in the village is through Society Capacity Building (SCB).
We do routine SCB activities every
month. Aside from being a means of communication and friendship, SCB activities
are also a means for exchanging ideas, improving skills and skills, providing
mutual evaluations, and discussing projected projections and program improvements.
Through SCB, we seek to accommodate and place the voice of the community as the
most important part in overcoming certain challenges in society.
In the end, SCB is also our means to
learn from the community. We try to realize that in the context of community
assistance and development, the true 'hero' of social change is the community
itself. Not us.
Through this approach, we see that
the opportunity to create an independent society will be wide open. (*)
