The month of Ramadan falls on March 23, 2023, which is the month that Muslims around the world have been waiting for. In this month of Ramadan, Muslims are competing to share, worship, and stay in touch with the aim of increasing piety to Allah SWT. In Indonesia, there are many moments that are usually carried out during the month of Ramadan, such as sharing takjil, bukber (breaking together), ngabuburit and others.
Ngabuburit is a tradition carried out by Indonesian people during the month of Ramadan. Even though there is no Shari'a that requires ngabuburit, Indonesian people always do this activity together.
The word "ngabuburit" comes from the Javanese language which means "to spend time before breaking the fast". The purpose of spending this time is to fill the time before breaking the fast when sunset arrives, so the term ngabuburit only exists when entering the month of Ramadan.
Then what are the activities that are usually done when ngabuburit?
After undergoing Ramadan fasting for one full day, before waiting for iftar, it must be filled with various activities. Here are some activities that can accompany you when ngabuburit or waiting for breaking the fast:
1. Cooking Opening Menu
Cooking during Ramadan is a hobby that mothers often do to serve family meals. Cooking the iftar menu will be very fun if it is done with other members, from shopping at the market together to breaking the fast together. Cuisine for breaking the fast is synonymous with sweet and fresh taste. This is a substitute for thirst during the day and can increase glucose levels in the body. However, keep in mind that consumption of sweet foods should not be excessive.
2. Hunting Takjil
Takjil comes from the Arabic "ta'jil" which means "serving food or small drinks when breaking the fast". Takjil itself refers to food or drinks served to break the fast at the time of breaking the fast. There are several special foods for the month of Ramadan such as compote, typical Banten nodule kentan, typical Jogja kicak, typical Betawi Chinese girlfriend porridge, typical Bogor glosor noodles and many more that you need to enjoy when breaking your fast.
3. Watching Television Shows
During the month of Ramadan, many television stations make programs according to the atmosphere of the holy month. There are many television programs specifically broadcast during the month of Ramadan to entertain and provide information for people who are fasting, such as culinary programs, religious programs, entertainment programs, and charity programs.
4. Tadarus
The holy month of Ramadan is a month full of blessings. In this month, all good deeds will receive multiple rewards, one of which is doing tadarus. Literally, the word "tadarus" comes from Arabic which means "to study or study" something. In the context of Islamic religious activities, tadarus refers to the activities of reading and studying the contents of the Al-Quran together in groups. Apart from getting abundant rewards, doing tadarus can also increase faith, purify the heart and mind, establish friendships with neighbors or family and maintain traditions.
5. Holding an Iftar Event
Some people are preoccupied with the bukber (breaking together) schedule with friends from school, office mates or business partners. The bukber activity is always looked forward to every year because apart from eating together, friendship is also getting established. Iftar is not only filled with eating and eating. Several activities are usually carried out before breaking the fast, such as holding a da'wah competition, holding games, performing traditional arts or holding a regional food festival.
The month of Ramadan is a month full of blessings if Muslims fill this month with kindness, sharing, helping each other and protecting themselves from lust.
