Imaji Sociopreneur once again entrusted with implementing the Tobacco Farmers’ Education and Training Program in Jember Regency

Imaji Sociopreneur has once again been entrusted with carrying out an education and training program for tobacco farmers in Jember Regency, as part of efforts to promote safe, healthy, and child-labor–free farming. In collaboration with the Jember Besuki Sustainability Taskforce, this program is called Peduli Petani. Since its launch in 2023, Peduli Petani has successfully provided education and mentoring to more than 2,000 independent (non-contracted) tobacco farmers across Jember Regency.

The program is built on three main pillars:

  1. Child Labor Prevention

  2. Use of Complete Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to reduce the risk of pesticide poisoning among farmers

  3. Proper and Responsible Pesticide Application

Peduli Petani goes beyond providing education alone. The program also supplies facilities and equipment, such as full PPE kits—including waterproof jackets, masks, gloves, safety glasses, and boots—as well as CPA Boxes (special pesticide storage containers). These boxes ensure that pesticides are safely stored and kept out of reach of children and untrained individuals, reducing the risk of accidental poisoning.

To prevent child labor practices among independent farmers, the program also provides regular, persuasive mentoring. This approach helps farmers understand the serious risks child labor poses to both children and the farmers themselves.

Peduli Petani represents a collective step toward ensuring that tobacco farming in Jember is safe, healthy, and sustainable. By strengthening farming practices, the program contributes to positive impacts for the wider community.
