The Imaji Lingkungan Program is
included in the Agricultural Labor Practice (ALP) Village community assistance
program initiated by Imaji Sociopreneur and PT. Universal Tempu Rejo since June
2021 in six villages in Jember Regency, East Java, namely Bagon, Kesilir,
Andongsari, Balung Lor, Sabrang, and Dukuh Dempok villages.
The Imaji Lingkungan Program includes
activities of sorting, processing, and managing waste through waste banks,
green protocol waste labs, and Integrated Waste Management Sites (TPST). Each
village has a different waste management program. Andongsari Village and
Kesilir Village implemented the waste bank program, Bagon Village and Sabrang
Village implemented the green protocol waste lab program, and Balung Lor
Village and Dukuh Dempok implemented the TPST program.
In this program, we also collaborate
with 23 social groups consisting of environmental activists in each village,
namely the manager of the Mawar Putih Waste Bank in Andongsari Village, Sumber
Rejeki Waste Bank, Barokah Jaya Waste Lab, and TPST Harapan Baru Dukuh Dempok.
Each program also has a different
orientation. The waste bank is oriented towards strengthening social groups in
the community that have special attention in the field of waste management.
Thus, the existence of a waste bank is not only interpreted as an activity to
collect waste from the community, but as an effort to empower the community in
the environmental, economic, social and cultural fields.
The green protocol waste lab program
is a waste management program that implements a garbage collection system from
each customer's house. The waste is then collected to waste collectors to be
managed and processed. The waste collected by the community will be used as
savings and accumulated at the end of the program.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Waste
Management Site (TPST) program implements an integrated waste processing
management system at the Final Disposal Site (TPA). Activities carried out in
the TPST program include collecting waste from each customer and then taking it
to the TPA to be processed and sold to waste processing plants, thereby
increasing the economic value of the waste.
To date, there are more than 150
village communities involved in the practice of sorting, processing and
managing waste with us. Until 2021, the Imaji Lingkungan program has succeeded
in collecting, collecting, and sorting 446.08 kilograms of plastic waste,
641.96 kilograms of paper waste, and 461.25 kilograms of iron waste.
Apart from that, the Imaji Lingkungan
program is our endeavor to contribute to the process of sorting and processing
waste from upstream, namely the community. We are aware that education about
disposing of waste in its proper place is not enough, there needs to be
education and concrete steps together so that people get used to sorting and
processing household waste.
In addition, we are also trying to
slowly change the stigma of 'garbage'. Through the customer concept, waste that
was initially considered worthless can actually be an alternative income if it
is managed properly. In the end, waste that was initially considered
problematic can actually be considered a blessing for the community.
